Voller: Schweinsteiger Still Has Years At The Top
Bastian Schweinsteiger has at least another two years at the "highest level", Germany great Rudi Voller has insisted.
Schweinsteiger has been banished from the Manchester United first-team squad by new manager Jose Mourinho and is expected to leave Old Trafford before the end of the transfer window.
Mourinho has even been accused by FIFPro of bullying the former Germany international midfielder, who was handed his international debut by Voller in 2004.
Voller, now sporting director at Bayer Leverkusen, told German newspaper Bild: "No matter where his future lies, Bastian will play on at the highest level for at least another two years.
"It's going to help him that he will no longer be playing for the national team. It will do Bastian good that this additional burden has been released. Philipp Lahm is the best example of that."
Schweinsteiger was hampered by injury in an inconsistent season under Louis van Gaal last year, while both Inter and AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain, are reportedly interested in signing the 32-year-old.
Voller said: "It's part of your playing career that you become prone to injury and people then always ask questions about your future, but this is a challenge that he now has to and will stand up to."
