Mourinho & Valencia Up For PL Awards

Jose Mourinho and Antonio Valencia have been shortlisted for the Premier League's Manager and Player of the Month awards respectively for August.

Manchester United have got off to a flying start in 2016/17 under Mourinho, who is the first manager in the club's history to win his first four competitive games.

The Reds overcame Leicester City in the Community Shield before beating Bournemouth, Southampton and Hull City in what has been a promising start to the new league campaign.

Valencia has been in inspired form as a forward-thinking full-back early in his eighth season at Old Trafford, defending and attacking with typical strength and dynamism, leading team-mate Ander Herrera to label him "the best right-back in the world".

The Ecuadorian provided an assist for Zlatan Ibrahimovic's winner at Wembley, played an instrumental role in the goal Wayne Rooney scored at the Vitality Stadium and continued to impress in the victories over the Saints and the Tigers.

Former Chelsea boss Mourinho is in contention to win his fourth monthly Premier League managerial award and is up against ex-United assistant Mike Phelan (Hull City), Pep Guardiola (Manchester City) and Antonio Conte (Chelsea).
