Rashford: My Amazing Game Against Arsenal
Marcus Rashford was only 18 years old when he first faced Arsenal for Manchester United's senior team, just a few days after scoring two goals on his surprise debut against Midtjylland back in February this year.
Of course, Rashford repeated the feat in his maiden Premier League game, striking another double to help the Reds beat the Gunners 3-2. He was understandably ecstatic but how is the talented teenager, now 19, feeling ahead of Saturday's game against the same opposition?
"When you’ve played well against a team, you think about that the next time you come to face them," admitted Rashford in an exclusive interview with MUTV. "I think everyone is just looking forward to the game. It's not only me, everyone is ready to go."
Although many United fans saw Rashford in action for the first time in the Europa League win over Midtjylland, the player feels the Arsenal game was the bigger life changer for him.
"For the fans and the public, the Midtjylland game was the game where they first saw my potential," said Marcus. “But for me, and the people closest to me, the Arsenal game was ‘the one’ because everyone understands how hard the Premier League is to play in. It was amazing."
It would been very easy for Rashford to rest on his laurels after those incredible first two games for United's senior team but he has done quite the opposite, spurred on by the people around him.
"It's one of the main things we spoke about after those two games," he recalled. "My friends and family spoke about what we needed to do to keep progressing and moving forward."
Some observers believe Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s one-match ban ruling him out of Saturday’s squad could give Rashford the opportunity to play as a central striker again. If that's the case, he says he'll be ready to readjust after learning from his senior team-mates.
"While I've been playing out wide, I've been watching players playing down the middle and it's helping me, to watch the role from a different angle," he revealed. "So when I get a chance to go down the middle it'll be a different feeling and I’ll enjoy it."
Rashford is clearly a keen student of Ibrahimovic in general, adding: "He knows what it takes to win games and to win trophies so there are things to learn from him."
