Herrera: We Are Finding Our Identity

Ander Herrera believes Manchester United's recent performances are proof that the current players, under Jose Mourinho's management, are rediscovering the identity and DNA of the club.

The Spaniard has played a key role in United's resurgence this season with his dynamic and sometimes brave displays in midfield - he needed three stitches after sustaining a facial wound during Monday's hard-fought away win at West Ham.

"We are playing well and we are controlling most of the games," Herrera told MUTV, when interviewed before the preceding victory over Middlesbrough at Old Trafford on New Year's Eve.

"When you watch Manchester United now you realise quickly who is the big team and that means we are finding our identity, the DNA of this club and its history.

"The most important thing in my opinion is we are not conceding too many chances and we are behaving like a big team. Of course we have to improve and be more clinical because we are creating a lot more chances than we are scoring but we can be happy and we can even more optimistic for the next few months and the next year because I think we are doing the right things and working in the right way.

"We all know [which direction the manager wants the team to go in]," he added. "Since I have been at this club I have won two trophies, the FA Cup and Community Shield, but we don’t want to stop. Now we are in four competitions and we have the obligation to fight for everything.

"We are Man United and we have to respect our history and fight for everything and we have the conditions to do it because we have a very good squad. I always say I am very happy and proud to be part of this team and hopefully I can keep being an important player."
