Mourinho Does Not Need A Striker In January
Jose Mourinho has denied Manchester United will look to sign a striker in the January transfer window, stating he is happy with his options and that now is not a time to complete such a deal.
The boss recruited Zlatan Ibrahimovic as a free agent in the summer and the Swede has impressed ever since by scoring 17 goals in all competitions. Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have also contributed 11 goals, while playing in deep and wide positions with Ibra up front on his own.
During Friday's press conference to preview the Premier League match against Middlesbrough, Mourinho delivered this response to one journalist asking if he will look to buy a goalscorer in the New Year.
“No, we're not going to do that,” the boss said at the Aon Training Complex. “We have Zlatan, we have Rooney, we have Rashford, we have Martial that can also be a number nine in a different style of football.
"We have a squad of, in this moment, 24 players. I know we have lots of competitions to play but where is the striker to come here with quality to be here, with quality to play for Manchester United, where is that striker that a club is available to let him come? That's not something for the January market, that's probably something for the summer but not for now.”
