Vidic: Michael Is A Players' Player
Michael Carrick is the kind of player every team needs to succeed, according to former Manchester United team-mate Nemanja Vidic.
The former Reds skipper will be reunited with Carrick and other members of the 2008 Double-winning side at the midfielder's testimonial match on Sunday 4 June.
Vidic is looking forward to coming back to Old Trafford and playing alongside "an intelligent and a team player" once again.
"He has the kind of character which means he doesn’t put himself before the group, he’s very professional. He has all qualities that every manager and footballer would like to be around," Vidic told ManUtd.com.
"I’m glad for him to have this night, he deserves it and I’m glad for him to have achieved what he’s achieved in his career.
"I think the players and others in football appreciate him a lot. When I think about winning and creating a good team you need to have certain players and Michael is one of those players you have to have in your team to be able to have a good group."
Vidic admits he wasn't expecting to step out at Old Trafford again following his departure in 2014 and subsequent retirement last year.
"I had said I wouldn’t play football at all [after retiring] but when he called me I couldn’t refuse. So I will come and I’m really looking forward to it," added the 35-year-old.
"I don’t know how long he wants to play football for but I wish him all the best for his future career and his future plans. We came to United at similar time – he came six months after me so we were together for eight years."
