Mkhitaryan: My Best Form Is Yet To Come

Henrikh Mkhitaryan enjoyed an excellent debut season at Manchester United and the popular midfield Armenian is sure he will get even better throughout the 2017/18 campaign.

The former Borussia Dortmund attacker scored 11 goals in 41 appearances for the Reds across all competitions, including a memorable finish in the UEFA Europa League final win over AFC Ajax.

Micki has hit the ground running on Tour 2017, presented by Aon, scoring two goals in as many matches against MLS sides Los Angeles Galaxy and Real Salt Lake. Ahead of the International Champions Cup match versus Manchester City, Henrikh told MUTV he plans to improve this season.

"Yes, I am sure the best is still to come and I am looking forward to it because I know that we can do better and I can do better,” he explained ahead of Wednesday’s training session at UCLA.

“So we are going to keep working very hard and try to achieve our goals. I am feeling good. Scoring goals in pre-season is not the main thing I am thinking about. It is more about getting ready and being in good shape. That is the most important thing. I also want to keep my goals for the new season.”

Thursday’s match against City will be the first-ever Manchester derby held outside of the UK and, although it is a friendly, Mkhitaryan believes the local rivalry will guarantee a competitive game.

“Of course this is a friendly but deep inside it is not really very friendly,” he admitted. “They are very important games for us, we will play as well as we can and to win, because at the end we are playing against City. It does not matter if it is a friendly or not.

“We want to win all of the games. It doesn't matter if it is City, if it Real Madrid, or if it is Barcelona, we are just trying to win every game and that is very important for us.”

Having only joined the club from the Bundesliga in the summer of 2016, Mkhitaryan knows what it is like to settle into this current squad of players and the United forward is pleased by the way our new recruits – Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku - are bedding in so far.

“They are training well,” he observed. “They are very good guys and we are trying to help them to adapt to the team. It is very important for them and us to get into the team as quickly as they can because we need them for the start of the season. We are doing our best to help them settle.”
