Rashford Reflects On Goals Against Galaxy

Marcus Rashford was pleased with Manchester United’s form in the 5-2 win over LA Galaxy, as well as the confidence-boosting first-half double that he scored at the StubHub Center.

The 19-year-old striker netted in just the second minute and quickly doubled his personal tally with 20 minutes on the clock, executing clinical finishes past goalkeeper Jon Kempin on both occasions.

Marouane Fellaini scored before the half-time break, ahead of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial adding further strikes in the second half. Galaxy grabbed two late goals of their own through Giovani dos Santos, but the damage was already done and United left the StubHub with a comfortable victory.

Rashford admits the goalscoring display was a big positive to take from the opening tour game. “Yeah I think it is good for your self-confidence,” Marcus explained on MUTV. “But it is still early days in pre-season and in the season as a whole. There is a lot of work to be done, as individuals and as a team still.”

Talking through his first goal, he said: “When Jesse poked it through, I knew I had time because the defender was on the wrong side of me. So I just had to take my time and pick where I wanted to put it in the goal. Is Jesse taking it as an assist? I think it is a tackle personally. It is definitely a tackle!

"The second goal was similar. I had a lot of time to pick my place. It is just about the finish once you get in that position. The first one gave me confidence so you then take the second one in your stride.”

Asked about whether the victory came easily, Rashford concluded: "To make it look easy is a difficult thing to do. Working hard on the pitch, you have to do it and it is never as easy as people say."
