Martial Claims Man Of The Match Award
Anthony Martial was the convincing winner of our Man of the Match award for his performance in Manchester United's 4-1 Carabao Cup win over Burton Albion.
The silky Frenchman collected a huge 81 per cent of the Twitter vote to finish well clear of his fellow MUTV nominees Marcus Rashford (13 per cent) and Juan Mata (six per cent).
Martial provided the assist for United's third goal, as his tenacious work allowed him to beat two Burton men, before finding Jesse Lingard in space, and the England international promptly fired home.
However, that was not Martial's only contribution of the match and he was lively throughout the opening 45 minutes. He had a number of chances to find the net, including one overhead kick, which was well blocked by Burton's Tom Naylor.
Nevertheless, the France international was rewarded for his efforts on the hour mark as, after racing clear of his marker to latch onto Rashford's flick-on, he had the presence of mind to calmly slot in his fourth goal of the season.
"Anthony Martial wanted to do things today," Jose Mourinho told Sky Sports after the match. "Some of them he did amazingly well, others not so well, but he was always trying and that commitment and happiness on the pitch is always important."
Lingard was also complimentary of Martial's performance and, in his post-match interview with MUTV, he stated his belief the former Monaco man will only keep improving.
"When he is running at you, your defenders are on the back foot," Lingard enthused. "If he continues to do that throughout this season he’ll be a force."
