Lingard: We Want Teams To Be Scared

Jesse Lingard says Manchester United want to keep making teams scared of coming to Old Trafford, ahead of Tottenham Hotspur's visit on Saturday.

Sides should already be wary of the trip to M16, given the fact we are 36 games unbeaten at the Theatre of Dreams in all competitions – a run which stretches back to September 2016.

In addition to that impressive record, Jose Mourinho’s men are yet to concede at home in the Premier League this term, and have conceded just once at home across all competitions.

Lingard, fresh from his double in Tuesday's 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Swansea City, told MUTV that he believes Old Trafford has already become a fortress once again.

“A lot of people have said that. Teams that come here are scared to play, and that’s the vibe we want to give off," he declared.

“It’s all about getting that consistency now – it’s obviously a huge game at the weekend.

“If we can get the win it’s a huge marker to set down and we need everyone in the squad ready to do that.”

The 24-year-old England star did, however, admit it will be one of the toughest challenges of the season so far when the Reds face Spurs in Saturday's lunchtime kick-off.

“They’re doing really well right now – they’re third in the league, right behind us,” he added. “So, it’ll be an interesting game with a lot of quality players on show.

“We’ve got to concentrate on what we’ve got to do – and that’s to win the game. Sometimes we’ve been in big games where we’ve not performed as well as we'd have wanted, but we’ve won the game, and the most important thing is to get all three points.”
