United's Potential Carabao Cup Opponents

Manchester United have advanced to the quarter-finals of the League Cup in consecutive seasons for the first time in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Holders United have reached the last four of the competition, now known as the Carabao Cup, after Jesse Lingard's brace saw off fellow Premier League side Swansea City 2-0 at the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Reds will be desperate to retain the trophy this season and, before fully turning our attention to Saturday's key Premier League clash at home to Tottenham, there's the small matter of the draw for the last eight.

Here's what you need to know…

WHO COULD WE FACE?
Six of the seven potential opponents the Reds might be paired against are from the Premier League. Manchester City and Arsenal progressed on Tuesday night after making hard work of Championship opponents on home soil, with City edging past Wolves 4-1 on penalties following a goalless draw after 120 minutes, while Arsenal also needed extra-time to beat Norwich City 2-1. Leicester City survived a scare against a second-tier side as the managerless Foxes came from behind to beat Leeds United 3-1 at the King Power Stadium, while Bournemouth beat Middlesbrough by the same scoreline. Bristol City will be the only Championship representatives in the quarter-finals as Lee Johnson's side thumped top-flight strugglers Crystal Palace 4-1 at Ashton Gate. Meanwhile, the Reds could also face two other top-flight teams from the capital following Wednesday night's results as West Ham United produced a thrilling comeback from two goals down to beat Spurs, our next opponents, 3-2 at Wembley, while Chelsea - who knocked United out of the FA Cup at the quarter-final stage last term - beat managerless Everton 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.

WHEN IS THE DRAW?
It will be taking place via a live stream on Twitter – the first time a draw for a major English domestic competition will be broadcast in this way – on Thursday 26 October at 16:00 BST from the social platform's UK hub in central London. It can be seen on the official Carabao Cup account @Carabao_Cup and will be conducted by former England cricketer Phil Tufnell and ex-England rugby union player Matt Dawson.

WHEN WILL WE PLAY?
The quarter-final tie will be in the week commencing Monday 18 December, although the Reds are likely to play on Wednesday 20 December, with our Premier League game at West Bromwich Albion scheduled for Sunday 17 December, after Everton went out of the League Cup. It will also be sandwiched in between another trip to the Midlands, to face Leicester City on Saturday 23 December.
