Mourinho's Verdict On Cup Win Over Swansea
Jose Mourinho was delighted with the response of his players after Manchester United progressed to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals with victory at Swansea City on Tuesday night.
The Reds reacted to Saturday's defeat at Huddersfield Town by winning 2-0 courtesy of Jesse Lingard's brace at the Liberty Stadium to continue our defence of the trophy and now await Thursday's draw to discover our opponents in the last eight next month.
Here is what the boss had to say in his interviews with MUTV and Sky Sports…
TWO-GOAL LINGARD’S CONTRIBUTION
“Jesse played well and played with a lot of freedom. We tried to give him good protection behind with the experience of Ander Herrera and strength of Scott McTominay. We played with two strikers with a lot of enthusiasm and it was a good dynamic. We are trying to defend our cup to the maximum we can and now we go to the quarter-finals. That's it and we are happy.”
RESPONSE TO HUDDERSFIELD DEFEAT
“We were solid and professional since the first minute. We were always in control of the match. I'm pleased with the performances of the team and individuals.”
400 GAMES IN ENGLISH FOOTBALL
“Of course I am [still excited as my first game] but 2004 was a long time ago. I think I am obviously the same but more mature and with a different way to react to things but I am the same - I want to win and I hate when I lose.”
HAPPY WITH PLAYERS’ ATTITUDE
“Yes, since the first minute, we felt we were in the game, we had a couple of corners, we were pressing high on the pitch and it was good.”
TOO EASY AT TIMES?
“No, I don’t think so. I think they have a good squad, they have a squad with lots of options. As I was saying before, there is no big difference between the players but we were really comfortable. The attitude was very good. I think [Sergio] Romero and [Chris] Smalling gave us big stability."
