Reaction To United Win At Swansea
ManUtd.com has gathered a selection of post-match quotes from the players and manager Jose Mourinho following Manchester United’s Carabao Cup win over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Reds bounced back from Saturday’s defeat at Huddersfield Town with a professional display as Jesse Lingard scored twice in a 2-0 victory to continue our defence of the League Cup by booking a place in the last eight of the competition.
Boss Mourinho, Jesse Lingard, Ander Herrera, Scott McTominay, and Axel Tuanzebe all spoke to MUTV after the cup triumph and we have summarised their key points below.
Jose Mourinho: “We were solid and professional, since the first minute. Great attitude, the match always in control and pleased with the result and the performance and the individual performances. We were solid, we were compact and we were in control.”
Jesse Lingard: “I feel great, it was a great team performance. I thought we controlled the game tactically to bounce back from the weekend. The last time [I scored a header] was on loan at Brighton against Leicester. It’s a different way of scoring for me but I enjoyed the moment.”
Ander Herrera: “I think we’ve got good feelings back again after the defeat at Huddersfield. I think we had control of the game, we played quite well, moving the ball. The strikers were brilliant tonight, Jesse [Lingard], Anthony [Martial] and Marcus [Rashford], so very good feelings. Also I want to say that we can also get kids like Axel [Tuanzebe] or Scott [McTominay], they can help us. They have played tonight very well with a lot of composure. I’m really happy for them, so good feelings tonight.”
Scott McTominay: “It was an amazing experience to get my first start of this season and it was even better to go through to the next round and with a strong performance. I thought we were confident throughout the game and we had it under control. In the second half, we were really good.”
Axel Tuanzebe: “It was good. You are just kind of waiting for your opportunity to play and the gaffer told me earlier this afternoon that I was involved so I was chuffed and I gave it my all. There’s nothing better than playing for Manchester United in front of a big manager as well at a big club – there’s nothing more rewarding as a younger player coming through.”
Former United defender Arthur Albiston: “It was the remit at the beginning of the game to get through and United have done that in style. There were two fantastic goals from Jesse Lingard and Sergio Romero had some work to do and did well in the second half. Scott McTominay and Axel Tuanzebe can be pleased with their evening’s work and I’m sure the manager will be too. The team quietened the Swansea crowd, the defenders did well and it was a professional job from United.”
View from the opposing dug-out – Swansea head coach Paul Clement: “You are always disappointed when you lose a game. We played better than we have been recently, but Manchester United deserved to win the game, no question about that. They had that extra bit of quality and they deserve to go through.”
View from Twitter – Harry said: “All round solid display, not a single poor performance thankfully. Best performances have come from Tuanzebe and Lingard though, brilliant.”
