Mata: Comeback Win Shows Our Character
Each and every Monday during the season, Manchester United star Juan Mata pens a personal blog. In his latest entry the Spaniard reflects on a superb comeback win over Newcastle on Saturday, and the upcoming clashes with Basel and Brighton...
Hi everyone,
On Saturday we had a happy start to our marathon of fixtures that will take us straight to Christmas, a series of games that will demand the maximum effort from us. With that in mind, the recovery of players such as Paul, Ibra and Marcos is great news for the team, for we will need the full squad in order to perform our best in every competition. It was great to see them back in the squad, especially Marcos and Ibra after such a long time away. They have worked really hard to return to fitness and they deserve to have a great season. I'm sure both of them will help us a lot in the coming months.
The truth is, Saturday’s victory was special because it was our first comeback win of the season. So far, in most of the games we had scored first and won. Against Newcastle, though, we conceded a goal and then we had to come back, and the way we did it illustrated our ambition and character. Newcastle are always a tough opponent, a well-crafted team with good players, but we were able to defeat them with a complete performance from the whole team.
Now we have three games in just seven days against some difficult opponents. First of all we travel to Switzerland to play Basel in the Champions League. They are second in the group and are currently level on points with CSKA Moscow, which shows the importance of this game for them, but also for us: we are Manchester United and we are committed to winning every single game.
And this coming Saturday, we will return to Old Trafford to face Brighton, whom my friend Bruno Saltor plays for. They are another newly-promoted team who have adjusted to Premier League life well. We know that every single game is tough - we have experienced that already this season. So, to conclude, a win would be very important to us.
I'm leaving you now, we have to gather strength for what’s coming in the next few weeks, because a lot is going on, but it's going to be absolutely thrilling.
Have a nice week.
Hugs,
Juan
