Rojo Plays For Reserves

Marcos Rojo made his first appearance since 20 April when playing for Manchester United's Under-23 side in the Premier League International Cup tie against Athletic Club, live on MUTV.

The Argentina international suffered a knee-ligament injury in the Europa League win over Anderlecht at Old Trafford last season, but has made good progress in his recovery and played in the first half against the Spanish side.

The outing at Leigh Sports Village with Ricky Sbragia's Reserves was a first opportunity for Rojo to ease his way back into action ahead of a first-team return at a later date.

The 26-year-old became a firm favourite with the fans by securing a place in the team at centre-back last term and showing his best form since arriving from Sporting Lisbon.

Rojo looked comfortable as a left-sided central defender alongside young Luca Ercolani, showing authority and passing with crispness and precision. He managed to get forward to head a Zak Dearnley free-kick over the bar on 40 minutes, but was flagged offside in any case.

The South American was withdrawn at half-time, as planned, to make way for Tyrell Warren.
