Souness: Lovren Will Be Having Nightmares Of Lukaku After Old Trafford Defeat
Graeme Souness said Dejan Lovren will be "having nightmares about Romelu Lukaku" after Liverpool's defeat against Manchester United.
Marcus Rashford's first-half double inspired United to a crucial 2-1 victory over rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The victory sees Jose Mourinho's men extend their unbeaten league run against Liverpool to eight games and opens up a five-point lead over Jurgen Klopp's side in the race for second.
Lovren was dominated in the air by Lukaku as his weakness was seemingly targeted by Mourinho.
United scored from both of their shots on target following attacks that were triggered by Lukaku winning an aerial duel with Lovren.
"Marcus Rashford will get the plaudits but Romelu Lukaku has been involved in both goals," Souness told Sky Sports.
"He's the strongest man on the pitch - centre-backs don't enjoy playing against him. I think Lovren will be having nightmares about him tonight."
Souness was once again impressed with United's "never-say-die attitude" and "resilience" as they made it three wins on the spin. Although Souness said their performance wasn't "easy on the eye", he praised their tactical approach in getting the ball up to Lukaku even though it meant bypassing midfield.
"Everyone is obsessed with possession stats," he said.
"The whole idea of football is to get the ball from the back to front as accurately and as quickly as you can. The only players that need time on the ball are the strikers.
"I've managed against Mourinho when he had Didier Drogba and he's not afraid of telling his players to launch it. There's still room for that. Liverpool had 68 per cent of the ball but have come away with nothing as United played to their strengths of playing to Lukaku, who bullied Lovren, and playing from there."
