Jose gives message to Academy prospects
Jose Mourinho has delivered a message to Manchester United's Academy players by stressing they should use Scott McTominay as a role model.
In an exclusive interview with MUTV at the annual awards dinner on Tuesday night, the boss spoke about the teenagers at the club, who were on stage to mark their Under-18 north title success, and said there is always a hope they can eventually make the breakthrough into the first team.
McTominay was selected as the manager's Player of the Year and has become a regular part of the senior squad at his boyhood club, following in the footsteps of Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford.
"I always say, that for me, they are not young players or old players," Jose told MUTV. "It's just about the quality, the personality, the passion and this kid [Scott] has everything that I want.
"So I think it's good for the younger boys in the Academy to look at him as an example of a player. I think, of course, we know it's very important to have players like Marcus, Jesse and some others that were born in the club.
"But I think it's important to have the right profile and he has the right profile so after Marcus, who was the one before I arrived, to have Scott, I think, gives every other kid the notion, the dream that their time can also arrive."
