Why David De Gea has made history

David De Gea has now won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year more times than any other Manchester United player.

The super Spaniard moved clear of Cristiano Ronaldo by lifting the trophy for the fourth time, at the awards dinner at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

Our brilliant no.1 saw off competition from second-placed Jesse Lingard and Romelu Lukaku, who finished third after more than 107,000 votes were registered by United supporters.

Real Madrid superstar Ronaldo was voted the season's best player in 2003/04, 2006/07 and 2007/08 but has now been overtaken by De Gea, who came out on top for the fourth time in the past five years.

The prize was first awarded in 1987/88, to Brian McClair, and is a worthy tribute to the individual as it is based on the fans' opinions.

Well done, David!
