Mourinho explains cup final team selection

Jose Mourinho admitted Romelu Lukaku is "not ready to start" the Emirates FA Cup final against Chelsea after naming the recently injured Belgian striker among Manchester United's substitutes at Wembley.

Speaking to the media after his side was announced, the Reds boss said: "We have replaced Romelu with Marcus Rashford. He is going to play in the same position but obviously with different qualities."

When asked how the young Mancunian's style will differ from Lukaku's, Mourinho replied: "I don’t want to speak about him in that way because I don’t think that’s fair.

"It’s not my philosophy as a manager to put a responsibility on one player. We are a team – we have to play, attack and defend as a team."

Commenting on the match in prospect, and the opposition's apparent 5-3-2 formation, Jose said: "I expect an emotional match, that’s what I expect. I will be surprised if it isn’t.

"Normally Chelsea play with five at the back. They are a very compact and defensive team, but very dangerous on the counter attack and we cannot be naive and let them play the way they like to play. I think my players will have to be on the pitch thinking and not just being with the emotion of such a big match."

United: De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, Jones, Young, Matic, Herrera, Pogba, Lingard, Alexis, Rashford. Subs: Romero, Bailly, Darmian, McTominay, Mata, Lukaku, Martial.

Chelsea: Courtois, Azpilicueta, Cahill (c), Rudiger, Moses, Kante, Fabregas, Bakayoko, Alonso, Hazard, Giroud. Subs: Caballero, Zappacosta, T.Chalobah, Barkley, Pedro, Willian, Morata.
