Andreas nets Goal of the Season prize

Andreas Pereira’s stunning strike against Southampton has been declared Manchester United’s Goal of the Season for 2018/19.

The Brazil international netted his first Premier League goal for the Reds in some style during our 3-2 win over the Saints at Old Trafford on 2 March.

With 52 minutes on the clock and the Reds trailing 1-0, the 23-year-old curled in a spectacular effort from outside the box in front of the Stretford End, after receiving the ball from Diogo Dalot.

The sublime strike was the overwhelming winner in our poll, after thousands of fans voted exclusively in the official app.

Here are the final results:

1: Andreas v Southampton (45%)
2: Mata v Juventus (10%)
3: Martial v Cardiff (9%)
4: Martial v Fulham (9%)
5: Rashford v Tottenham (8%)
6: Pogba v Young Boys (6%)
7: Rashford v Brighton (4%)
8: Mata v Chelsea (4%)
9: Lingard v Arsenal (3%)
10: Lukaku v Palace (1%)

Andreas’s award-winning effort was only the second goal the midfielder has netted for the Reds, with his other coming in a 3-0 League Cup win over Ipswich Town back in 2015.

Asked how it felt to collect the trophy, Andreas said: “It’s very heavy!

”I want to say thanks to all my team-mates, the staff who helped me, the fans who voted for me, so I’m very happy to win this and play for a great club like this and win a trophy. I’m very happy.“

Reflecting further on the goal, the Brazilian continued: “As soon as I struck the ball, to be fair I didn’t see it going in because I used the defender in front of me, but as soon as the crowd went crazy I knew it was in the back of the net.”
