Ole's team news for final-day Cardiff clash
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has delivered a team news update ahead of the final game of Manchester United's season against Cardiff City on Sunday.
The boss has pledged to inject some youth into his line-up for the visit of Neil Warnock's Bluebirds with several youngsters involved in first-team training this week. James Garner, Dylan Levitt, Arnau Puigmal, Tahith Chong, Angel Gomes and Mason Greenwood were all working with the senior group on Thursday.
There is also a chance Antonio Valencia could make a farewell appearance if he can prove he is match fit. The club captain is out of contract in the summer.
Ole was asked whether Sunday could be a final match in the red shirt for some of his players and replied: “Well, you never know in football. It might be your last game, but it might be the start of some careers as well, of course.
”We've had some young players knocking on the door all season really and we'll start with one or two of the kids as well.“
Chong came off the bench at Huddersfield Town last weekend while Greenwood appears to have recovered from an injury that kept him out of the 1-1 draw.
Valencia has not played for United since 2 January, in the 2-0 victory at Newcastle United, but he has been back in training in a bid to prove his fitness.
“I spoke to Antonio yesterday,” revealed the manager. “He's not been fit the five or six months I've been here unfortunately. He's really struggled but he feels that he could play a part and I would hope that he gets through today and tomorrow and we could give him a nice send off, because he's been a fantastic servant to the club.
”He's been Player of the Year, he's been captain at the club and I think that's only fair.“
Jesse Lingard could return after being absent through injury while there are doubts over Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Anthony Martial.
Eric Bailly is definitely sidelined with a knee problem, sustained in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford.
Cardiff will be looking to end the campaign on a positive note after sliding back into the Championship following one year in the top flight.
The Welsh side will be without star defender Sol Bamba, Matthew Connolly, Joe Ralls and Callum Paterson.
