Your easy guide to the week ahead

It is a busy week at Manchester United with two games for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men and the return of European football to Old Trafford.

Also in action are Casey Stoney’s Women and our Under-18s, while there are a few significant anniversaries and birthdays on the horizon.

Here’s a quick guide to everything going on at United over the coming seven days…

MONDAY
The latest round of Premier League TV fixtures are expected to be announced on Monday morning. Both Sky Sports and BT Sport will reveal which games will be shown live in the month of November and, as usual, it could result in the time and date of several United fixtures being altered.

In the evening, our Women’s team face their first home match of the 2019/20 season and a maiden Women Super League match at Leigh Sports Village. Arsenal will be our first visitors in the top flight and should pose a tough test for the Reds. The game kicks off at 19:30 BST and will be broadcast live on BT Sport, although our MUTV subscribers can watch the full game from 21:30 BST.

Elsewhere, on this date Gary Neville made his United debut in a 0-0 draw with Torpedo Moscow in 1992. The defender went on to make 601 more appearances for United, a tally bettered only by four players in our history.

TUESDAY
Our 1968 European Cup-winning goalkeeper Alex Stepney played his first game for the Reds on the date 53 years ago. Unsurprisingly, he kept a clean sheet for the Reds as we beat Manchester City 1-0.

WEDNESDAY
Ole will address the European media ahead of the Europa League group-stage tie against Astana. The boss will no doubt give an update on the latest team news and, of course, the media briefing will be broadcast on MUTV and also in our Official App.

THURSDAY
Our Europa League campaign begins when we play Astana at Old Trafford (kick-off 20:00 BST). In our previous involvement, back in 2016/17, the Reds won the competition and Ole hopes to start with a positive result this time around. The game is also our first ever meeting with a side from Kazakhstan.

FRIDAY
The boss usually holds a press conference to preview our next Premier League match, but this week he has the option to do that on Thursday evening following our Europa League tie. We will provide confirmation, either way, later in the week.

Elsewhere, it is a decade to the day since Michael Owen scored a 90th-minute winner for United against Manchester City. The game, which was voted the best match in league’s history at the Premier League 20 Seasons Awards, saw United win 4-3 thanks to goals from Wayne Rooney, Darren Fletcher (2) and Owen.

SATURDAY
Neil Wood’s Under-18s are in action as they host Everton at the Aon Training Complex. The match starts at 11:00 BST and will be shown live on MUTV.

One man who knows our Academy well is Paul Scholes. The legendary midfielder, of course, learned his trade in our under-age sides before moving into the first team and actually made his debut for the Reds on this day in 1994. Scholes's maiden showing came in a second-round League Cup tie against Port Vale, which we won 2-1.

SUNDAY
The week concludes with a trip to the London Stadium to take on West Ham (14:00 BST kick-off). Ole’s Reds have drawn both games on the road this campaign and the boss will be hoping to improve on that this weekend. As United manager, he has enjoyed his one meeting with West Ham to date: a 2-1 win against the Hammers at the tail end of the 2018/19 campaign.
