Injured Rashford posts a message to United fans
Manchester United talisman Marcus Rashford has vowed to be "“fitter than ever”" when he returns from the back injury that caused him to miss Sunday's clash with Liverpool.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that this season’s top scorer suffered a stress fracture in his back during last week's Emirates FA Cup third-round replay against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford.
Speaking after the subsequent Liverpool game, the manager gave this update on the Academy graduate: "“He won’t be back until after the mid-season break. Normally a stress fracture is six weeks to heal and then he would probably need some recovery or rehab after that.”"
Always an optimist, Marcus has now used his official social media accounts to communicate a positive message to concerned Reds supporters around the world.
"“On the pitch or not, United fans don’t get much bigger than me,”" writes Rashford.
"“You best believe I'll be involved in team meetings, team huddles and team sessions throughout this recovery. Blink and I'll be back, fitter than ever. "
"“See you soon.”"
Ole believes Marcus will miss our upcoming fixtures against Burnley, Tranmere Rovers or Watford (FA Cup), Manchester City (Carabao Cup) and Wolves, before the mid-season break takes place.
That period of rest effectively begins on Monday 3 February and, for United, it will run until the match action resumes against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday 17 February.
Solskjaer recently said that the squad may venture into Europe for a training camp, although that is yet to be confirmed.
After the Chelsea game, the Reds will contest three more fixtures to finish the second month of 2020 - home and away against Club Brugge in the Europa League, and home to Watford in the Premier League. It remains to be seen if Rashford will be fit for those.
The Reds are set to welcome Burnley to the Theatre of Dreams on Wednesday evening, when three important Premier League points will be up for grabs.
Our visitors are in high spirits after earning a 2-1 victory over high-flying Leicester City at Turf Moor on Sunday, thanks to second-half goals from Harvey Barnes and Ashley Westwood.
The win has lifted Burnley up to 14th in the table and manager Sean Dyche was delighted with his players: "“There was a big sign of moving forward with that performance. We know what we are about and we reminded the group of that this week. But there was good play today. We asked different questions. The performance was important to me as a manager, not just the win.”"
