Young completes United departure

Manchester United can confirm that Ashley Young has completed his transfer to Inter Milan.

The 34-year-old captain, who joined the Reds in the summer of 2011, made 261 appearances for the Reds, scoring 19 goals.

Speaking earlier on Friday about Young's move to Inter, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told us: “Ashley’s mindset was that he wanted to try a new adventure and he he’s approaching 35 now. He’s done a fantastic job and he’s served this club fantastically.

“I think it was an opportunity for him that we had to say yes to. We got a transfer fee for someone who’s been so loyal to the club.

“Good luck. That’s what Manchester United do, you have players for a long time and then they move on and someone else steps in.”

Everyone at the club would like to thank Ashley for his many seasons of service and to wish him well for the future.

YOUNG SAYS GOODBYE

Via his social media accounts, Ashley has posted the following message to the club and United supporters around the world:

“To Man United: you gave me the chance to play with legends, to win trophies, to work under the greatest manager in history and to be your captain. Thank you for letting me be part of your story for eight and a half years.

“To the United fans: every time I walked on the pitch wearing your shirt, I gave you my all. Thank you for your support during the highs and the lows. I leave as one of you. See you again in an away end soon.”
