Rashford is raring to go in Wolves replay
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Marcus Rashford is ready to chase more goals as the Reds head into Wednesday’s Emirates FA Cup replay against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Rashford has been a regular in United’s line-up this season, having started all but three games. However, last Saturday’s match against Norwich City was the first time our number 10 has been substituted before the hour mark in 2019/20.
Ahead of the Wolves game, Solskjaer confirmed the withdrawal of our top scorer was just a precaution.
“Yeah, he's fine. Marcus is a young boy that I don't want to use too much for his own benefit, because you don't want to burn him out,” Ole told reporters at Tuesday’s pre-match press conference.
“But he's so energetic and professional and he's raring to go again.”
The 22-year-old forward has been directly involved in 24 goals in the 30 matches he has featured in this season, and former striker Solskjaer says that’s down to Rashford working on the same things he used to do when he wore the red shirt.
“He's still working on his penalties, his free-kicks and the shots from outside the box,” said Ole,
“but we are focused more on his runs into the box and getting into the dangerous areas for the tap-ins, the easy ones, the ones I scored.
“Those are the ones that will get you between five and 10 goals a season, and take you from 15 to 25 [in total].”
The Wythenshawe-born Academy product scored twice against Norwich in our convincing 4-0 win, and our Norwegian manager was particularly pleased with Rashford and United’s first goal against the Canaries.
“Yeah, that was obviously something we did work on with Juan and Marcus,” said Solskjaer.
“It was something that Marcus is working on all the time.
“He's mixing up wing play with centre-forward play. I think he and Anthony have rotated a little bit more lately as well and I think that's because they're confident and they feel good about themselves,” added the manager.
