FRED WARY OF LEICESTER THREAT IN FINAL-DAY SHOWDOWN

Manchester United midfielder Fred has warned that the Reds need to be wary of Leicester City's quality ahead of our crucial final meeting in the Premier League on Sunday.

We travel to the King Power Stadium knowing that a win or a draw will guarantee the Reds qualification for the Champions League next season. However, a defeat would see the Foxes secure their place at our extent.

United's recent good form means we've overtaken Brendan Rodgers's men in the table, but in the early parts of the campaign Leicester were flying high and appeared to be on the verge of mounting a title campaign.

For this reason, Fred was keen to highlight just how tough a test Sunday's match will be.

Speaking exclusively to club media ahead of the game, the 27-year-old said: “They’re a big team and they did really well.

“For a period they were competing at the top of the table for first place, but then they subsequently fell off. They’re a very, very good team and we respect them.

“They’ve got great players, lots of really good players and top goal scorers. As I said before, we are going to respect them but also, we’re going into the game to win.”

Among the danger men for the home side is Jamie Vardy, who goes into the last round of fixtures having scored 23 times in the league this campaign, two more than anyone else.

Our no.17 thinks limiting the Leicester striker’s chances will be vital in getting the result we need. “He’s not the top scorer just by chance,“ said Fred. ”So we need to nullify his threat. He’s a top player and he’s having a great season.

“We need to take a lot of care with him. He’s a very good player, we need to think about his goal threat, but we have very good players in defence who are capable of nullifying him.”

One of those defenders is skipper Harry Maguire, who is set to return to his former stomping ground for the first time on Sunday.

While it will be a momentous day for the centre-back, Fred is confident Harry will be focused at the King Power.

“It must be a great feeling for him because he’ll be going back to see his old team-mates,” he said. “He was there for a long time, so he must have some strong friendships there and so it must be good feeling.

”But today he’s representing Manchester United and as we’ve said he will be doing his everything to avoid us conceding and come away with the win.

“As a club we should be in the Champions League every year as we’re a massive club,“ Fred added, on the winner-takes-all encounter. “So to be back in the Champions League is really important for us players, it's also important for the club.

“It’s what the players and the club deserve and it will be great to be back in the Champions League next season and we will look to win the Champions League next season.”
