Evans Hopes For Happy Ending

United may have lost the Carling Cup semi-final first leg, but Jonny Evans is confident the Reds can still reach Wembley.

Kris Commons' superb first-half strike at Pride Park gave Championship side Derby County a one-goal advantage to take to Old Trafford for the semi-final second leg.

Evans praised the Rams' resolve on their way to a famous victory, but is confident in United's ability to make home advantage count on Tuesday week.

"It's a two-legged tie and we'll take them back to Old Trafford still with a good chance," the Northern Ireland international told MUTV.

"We knew we were going to have to battle hard, but I don't think we did it well enough all over the pitch and they certainly did better than us in that area. They reacted to every ball and were just that little bit sharper.

"We were very poor by our own standards and Derby probably deserved the win."

Evans is looking forward to hopefully putting things right in the second leg, but is predicting another difficult test against Nigel Clough's men.

"We never thought this tie was going to be simple. We've come up against a few Championship teams in the Carling Cup over the last couple of years and had some difficult games," added the defender.

"It's going to be another tough game at Old Trafford, but I'm sure both sides will look forward to it and may the best team win."
