Rooney Sustains Ankle Injury

Wayne Rooney's ankle injury will be assessed on Sunday after the striker was replaced towards the end of the thrilling 3-2 success at Aston Villa.

The Reds' No10 must be a major doubt for England's midweek friendly in Sweden after hobbling out of the action, with Anderson taking his place in the 79th minute.

"Rooney got an ankle knock and he's got some ice on it," Sir Alex informed Sky Sports. "We'll see what it's like tomorrow."

Three other United stars are in Roy Hodgson's plans for Stockholm - Ashley Young, Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley. Young was replaced at the interval by matchwinner Javier Hernandez but the switch was thought to be tactical rather than due to any injury.
