Preview 2013/14: January

Fixtures: 1 Jan, Tottenham (H) | 11 Jan, Swansea (H) | 18 Jan, Chelsea (A) | 28 Jan, Cardiff (H)

First thoughts: New Years’ resolution? Win at all costs.

Toughest test: Having lost to Spurs at home last season the Reds must be wary, but January's trip to Stamford Bridge casts a shadow over the other fixtures. The Blues are likely to be challengers to United's title, especially with Jose Mourinho back at the helm. This tie will challenge both teams' title credentials.

Subplot: The self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ had an excellent record against Sir Alex Ferguson, and unfortunately, he is unbeaten in eight outings against David Moyes whilst he was in charge of Everton. However, the Scot always put up a brave fight and with better resources, could turn the tables around.

Miles to travel: 648

Last January: P4 W3 D1 L0 (Wigan 0 United 4; United 2 Liverpool 1; Tottenham 1 United 1; United 2 Southampton 1)

Rivals watch: Man City: Swansea City (A), Newcastle (A), Cardiff City (H), Tottenham (A); Chelsea: Southampton (A), Hull (A), United (H), West Ham (H); Arsenal: Cardiff City (H), Aston Villa (A), Fulham (H), Southampton (A).
