Capital One Cup 3rd Round Draw: Man. United Face Liverpool Tie

Manchester United's quest to win the 2013/14 Capital One Cup will begin with a home tie against Liverpool.

David Moyes' men were the first team to be pulled out when the Round 3 draw was made on Wednesday evening - the resulting eight ties will be played in the week beginning 23 September.

United have faced Liverpool on four previous occasions in various guises of the League Cup - losing the finals at Wembley in 1983 and Cardiff's Millennium Stadium in 2003 plus a tie at Anfield in November 1985 but winning the only meeting at Old Trafford to date in 1990.

The Reds beat Newcastle United in the equivalent round last season, before bowing out after extra-time in a nine-goal thriller away to Chelsea. The club last won the competition in 2010, adding to triumphs in 1992, 2006 and 2009.

United's next fixture is, of course, away to Liverpool in the Barclays Premier League this Sunday.
