Moyes: We Need To Reward Fans
David Moyes wants his team to reward Manchester United’s fans for their support with a place in the Capital One Cup final.
The Reds face Sunderland on Wednesday with a place at Wembley on 2 March at stake and, following the 2-1 defeat at the Stadium of Light earlier this month, a raucous Old Trafford could make the difference as the 12th man against the Black Cats.
Sunday’s 3-1 league loss at Chelsea was notable for the highly vocal backing Moyes and the team received in spite of the disappointing final result, which came courtesy of a hat-trick from Blues striker Samuel Eto’o, with Javier Hernandez reducing the arrears following his appearance from the substitutes’ bench.
Nemanja Vidic will miss the visit of Sunderland, beginning his three-match ban for the straight red card he received for a lunge on Eden Hazard, but the manager is adamant that, while the Reds must cut out the defensive lapses that proved costly at Stamford Bridge, the players he will be able to select can make it a night to remember at Old Trafford.
"We’re going to go out and do everything we can to get through," he told MUTV. "I want to give the supporters something to cheer about. There’s not been an awful lot and I’m fully aware of that but I thought how we played today was not bad. The players played well but if you are going to defend the way we did then we are going to find it tough."
