Amos Looks Forward To Warm US Welcome

Manchester United stopper Ben Amos is relishing the opportunity to play in front of thousands of American fans during Tour 2014, presented by Aon.

With record-breaking crowds expected at matches against the likes of Real Madrid and Inter Milan, Macclesfield-born Amos has spoken of his amazement at the amount of support the Reds get when travelling to foreign shores.

“We always get good crowds over in the States,” Ben told ManUtd.com. “I was surprised in America at how big the attendances were and I think that’s one of the things that shocks players when they come to play for Manchester United - the amount of interest in our pre-season matches from all around the world.

“It also helps the younger United players who haven’t previously played in front of fifty or sixty thousand people - and more. It’s a great experience for them.”

The goalkeeper, who will be embarking on his sixth pre-season tour with the club, also talked about the importance of the sports science team during this period of preparation for the new campaign.

“It’s becoming more and more the case that players are getting fitter, stronger, faster – you can’t just rely on good genes, you’ve got to do the yoga and look after yourself to make sure you don’t pick up silly, preventable injuries. There are a lot of sport science staff that are around to advise you and speak to you. It’s very much become part of football.”
