Rooney & Blackett Upbeat Ahead Of Leicester Game

Wayne Rooney and Tyler Blackett are determined to capitalise on the feel-good factor that has engulfed Manchester United following last weekend’s renascent victory over QPR.

The Reds secured a first win of the Barclays Premier League campaign with a convincing performance full of attacking endeavour and creative energy. As such, Louis van Gaal’s reshaped squad will travel to Leicester City on Sunday with restored confidence and a focus on gleaning three more points.

Rooney hopes his team-mates can produce a similar display following an enjoyable week at the Aon Training Complex, where the club’s raft of summer signings have continued to integrate themselves into the squad.

“QPR was great, it’s always great to play in a game where the team are going forward, playing flowing football and scoring goals,” Rooney told MUTV. “It was an exciting day as there were a lot of new players making their debut for us. It was an exciting day and thankfully we got a good result.

“The performance did look impressive. We’re working hard in training and putting the hours in to make sure that we are playing well together when we go into games. That’s important as we’ve got quite a few new players and we need to make sure that things are right for the weekend.

“I think it’s great for the team and the fans. When you look at the world-class players that we are bringing in it makes for exciting times for us all. For me as a player you just want to go into the team with them and hopefully be successful with them.

“I’m sure it [selecting the team] is a difficult decision for the manager, but it’s a good problem to have. There are so many good players now that are capable of stepping in and doing a job for the team.”

Rooney and Blackett have both played every minute of United’s four Barclays Premier League matches this season and the latter, who hopes to start again on Sunday, is loving the experience of playing senior football for the club he dreamed of representing as a child.

“It’s been good. I’ve played some good games, everyone’s been treating me well and I’ve been enjoying it,” Blackett enthused on MUTV. “It’s everything I have dreamed of since I was little. To be playing at Old Trafford in front of all the fans is everything I’ve always wanted. It’s been brilliant.

“The banter’s been good in the dressing room and on the training pitch too,” Tyler added. “The manager’s enjoyed that too - he’s serious, but he enjoys a laugh as well. This week, especially, everyone’s more upbeat and things are more settled. Everyone’s looking forward to the games that are coming and hopefully we’ll get some good results.”
