Young Enjoys Senior Squad Role

Ashley Young says he is always on hand to help both new and young players coming in to the Manchester United squad.

At 29, the winger-turned-wing-back is one of the elders of the Reds' squad alongside the likes of Michael Carrick, Robin van Persie and Darren Fletcher. And in an exclusive interview with the latest Inside United magazine, Young says it's a role he relishes.

"At the start of pre-season we were going through age order and I found myself at number six or seven and I thought 'wow, I am starting to get old now!" he joked. "Being 29 you start to become one of the more senior players and I felt like that on tour.

"It puts more pressure on you but it’s how you deal with that pressure - you want to be there to help the youngsters that are coming through into the first team. I think that showed in pre-season how the seniors help the youngsters and also help each other and all talk together on the pitch. We’ve got one [club] captain but when you're out there on the pitch it's like there is 11."

During his sit-down with the official club magazine, Young reflected on his rise up the football ladder, discussed the season so far and spoke of his excitement at the club's new signings. And the wing-back also insisted he remains confident the Reds can quickly improve upon a disappointing start to the 2014/15 campaign.

"I definitely think things are going to turn for us and I would say to the fans there is nothing to worry about, we're going to come good," he declared. "It's just like the manager has said, just believe in the philosophy and how we're playing and keep believing that we're going to turn this round because we do."
