Jones: We Need To Build A New Run
Phil Jones insists the Manchester United players need to dust themselves down after the Southampton defeat and start another long unbeaten run.
The Reds' 11-match streak without losing was ended by the Saints, who moved above the Reds into third place in the Barclays Premier League with their 1-0 success at Old Trafford. With a trip to London to face QPR next on the agenda, Louis van Gaal's men are determined to collect a first league win of 2015.
"I think losing is always a little setback but it's nothing more than that," argued Jones. "We have to look forward to the next game and make sure we get three points. We have been on a decent run and we need to go on a new one. It's back to the drawing board, we will evaluate the game and move on. It's as simple as that. We will look forward to the next game and prepare right for it. Hopefully, we can win.
"There's a lot of confidence still in the dressing room. We have lost the game, the lads are disappointed but you have to move on quickly. You can't dwell on these results. We have done okay over Christmas. We would have liked to have picked up two more points against both Stoke and Tottenham but now we need to get a bit of a run."
Jones is convinced the manager's overall plan will reap dividends because the players are desperate to improve.
"It's a learning curve," he added. "It doesn't just happen overnight. You don't just click your fingers and you are used to playing in a formation. It's like anything. But we are improving in training and we want to get better. That's the main thing. Everyone of us in the changing room wants to get better, to learn and that's only good for us."
