De Gea Admits Frustration
David De Gea has admitted his frustration that Manchester United have been out of luck in the past three games.
The Reds were beaten by Chelsea, Everton and West Brom and failed to score on each occasion but the Spain international is hoping things are put right in Saturday's clash at Crystal Palace and a seven-point lead can be opened up again over fifth-placed Liverpool. Brendan Rodgers' side are not in action until Sunday afternoon, when tackling champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Palace were beaten 1-0 at Old Trafford in the reverse fixture in November and United have only ever conceded one Barclays Premier League goal away to Palace – Gareth Southgate's equaliser in the 1-1 draw back in the 1994/1995 season. Hence, De Gea will be hoping for a clean sheet, even if it is at the other end where the team has struggled since putting four past Manchester City in the derby.
"It's a difficult moment with three losses," conceded De Gea to MUTV. "We need to keep going, look forward, try to play better and, of course, try to win the games.
"I think we played quite well against Chelsea and West Bromwich but we have to create more chances and score more goals. With no goals in these games, I think that it's important we score more.
"I think it was an unlucky game [against West Brom] as we played much better than them. But that's football – they scored what I feel was a lucky goal and they defended all the time. It was a straight shot for me [by Chris Brunt from a free-kick] but it deflected to the other corner [off Jonas Olsson].
"There was frustration for me and for the team. We created many chances and we missed a penalty. Maybe we could have won this game 5-1."
De Gea expects Alan Pardew's side will be awkward opponents again on Saturday and pose a threat on the break with Yannick Bolasie and ex-Red Wilfried Zaha particularly dangerous on the flanks.
"I think they will maybe be similar to West Brom," he stated. "I feel they are going to try to defend. They know we want to keep the ball and create chances. I think they have good wingers, who are quick and good on the counter-attack."
United's no.1 is looking to extend his run of having played in every single game this season, not missing a minute under Louis van Gaal since the Dutchman took charge.
