Van Gaal: United Are Always Monitoring Transfer Market

Louis van Gaal admits Manchester United are constantly looking at transfer targets for every position in the squad.

The Reds have already began planning for next season by agreeing a deal for PSV winger Memphis Depay, subject to the Netherlands international passing a medical.

Van Gaal hopes to add more players to his squad over the summer and, when asked about the future of David De Gea, who he hopes he will stay, he explained why the Reds have the ability to act for any eventuality in the transfer market.

"Transfers are a process, it's not 'I want you and he comes', there are always three parties - the player, the club, and ourselves. It's not so easy," van Gaal told reporters.

"It's not a question of how big or the number of players in the squad, it's how the balance is. When you have for every position two equal-levelled players, then I'm happy."

On the subject of signing players, van Gaal added: "You have three parties and the most important party is always the player, I have already said in this conference so I cannot repeat myself, I don't want to repeat myself. We have a very good scouting commission for every position."

When asked further about David De Gea's future, he said: "When you ask that, it's dependable not of Manchester United, not of me, because we want him to sign. He has to sign, he has to want to stay here at Manchester United. I don't know [why he hasn't decided]. I cannot say what he's saying to me. We want him to stay and I hope he shall sign."
