Di Maria Wins Premier League Goal Award
Angel Di Maria's superb lob for Manchester United against Leicester City has won the Premier League's 'Goal Cup' after being chosen as the best strike of 2014/15 by Twitter users.
The Argentinian's effort came during a 5-3 defeat at the King Power Stadium in September and was selected as one of eight standout finishes during the season, which were paired together in a knockout format. Fans were then asked to pick their favourites, with the goal receiving the most votes progressing to the next stage.
After beating off competition from Jermain Defoe and Charlie Adam to reach the final, Di Maria came up against Philippe Coutinho's long-range hit for Liverpool away to Southampton. While the Brazilian took an early lead, it was ultimately United's no.7 who emerged victorious.
Angel's strike has been recognised as one of the Reds' best of the campaign, recently finishing second to Juan Mata's acrobatic effort at Anfield in the club's Goal of the Season voting.
