Who Was United's Most Clinical Finisher?
Football at the highest level is all about taking your chances and no Manchester United player had a better shot conversion rate than Spanish sensation Juan Mata last term.
The 27-year-old scored nine goals in 33 Barclays Premier League appearances throughout the 2014/15 season and finished as the Reds’ third-highest scorer behind Wayne Rooney (12) and Robin van Persie (10). Based on his shots at goal, he tallied a conversion rate of 36 per cent.
Of course, Mata’s stand-out moment was undoubtedly his match-winning brace in the 2-1 win over Liverpool in March and his second strike at Anfield was later voted the club’s Goal of the Season. Another highlight was his calm finish in the 4-2 victory over Manchester City at Old Trafford.
Somewhat surprisingly, Chris Smalling had United's second-best conversation rate last season with 33 per cent after the maturing central defender scored four goals from 12 shots at goal. Michael Carrick is placed third with 25 per cent, having scored once from four shots at goal.
Ander Herrera enjoyed a debut season to remember at United after scoring six Premier League goals from 24 shots to also earn a 25 per cent conversation rate. Top-scorer Rooney is fifth on the list with 23 per cent after scoring 12 league goals from 52 shots.
