Alan Smith: Crunch Time For United

Manchester United face a "big couple of days" in the transfer market, says Sky Sports' Alan Smith.

Louis van Gaal's side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Swansea on Super Sunday to increase scrutiny on a squad that boasts only Wayne Rooney and out-of-favour Javier Hernadez as senior strikers.

Co-commentator Smith, speaking to Sky Sports reporter Patrick Davison in the latest Tunnel Talk series, said he believed fans would be "crying out for reinforcements" in attack and declared Swansea deserved winners.

"Maybe United didn't adjust quickly enough [to Andre Ayew playing down the middle] but it was desire as much as anything from the home team. They were great value for the win," Smith said from the Liberty Stadium tunnel after the final whistle.

"United had plenty of the ball but they are crying out for someone to be an option for Wayne Rooney, if not to play alongside him. Not enough times did they they get behind Swansea.

"United fans will be crying out for reinforcements in that top area because they're definitely short.

"I think it is a big couple of days for United. It'll be a long season if they don't get anyone else up front, I truly believe that."
