Mata Pleased For Team-mates

Juan Mata has expressed his delight at fellow Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera’s first start and first goal of the season - and at Wayne Rooney’s hat-trick in Manchester United's midweek victory over Club Brugge.

Speaking after the second-leg win, Mata said he was happy to see his friend Herrera produce an exceptional display and claim his goal with an accomplished finish past Club Brugge goalkeeper Sinan Bolat.

The 27-year-old told MUTV and ManUtd.com: “He [Herrera] played a very good game and scored a great goal. Obviously we understand each other very well on and off the pitch and I’m very happy as well.”

Mata was naturally also positive when talking about United’s Man of the Match, Wayne Rooney. “I’m very happy for him because he was training well,” said Juan.

“He did what he knows how to do – to score goals and to play for the team, running for the team-mates and it was good that we could give him the assists. He was looking for a goal, he got 3, and he could have scored more. I’m very happy for him. He deserves it.”
