Sir Alex Warns To Beware Distractions
Sir Alex Ferguson believes sacrifices must be made in order to achieve success in any field as our exclusive series of his readings from Leading continues on Manchester United's Facebook page.
The legendary former Reds boss provided a preview of his chapter on 'Distractions' with more to follow at 09:00 BST on each morning until Thursday 10 September.
"You have to shut out all distractions in order to truly focus on your job," he instructed. "I’ve yet to encounter anyone who’s achieved great success without closing themselves off from the demands of others or forgoing pastimes.
"I’m not suggesting that being obsessed with your job is healthy but I just cannot imagine how, if you aspire to be better than everyone else, you can have balance in your life. If you have two people of equal talent, it will be the way in which they marshal their ability that will determine their eventual success.
"Learning to concentrate on the essentials was a skill I gradually acquired because distractions exact a heavy toll on individuals and organisations. And it demands incredible discipline to keep them at bay."
Leading will be released on 22 September and Sir Alex starts his theatre tour a day earlier in London. Find out more and pre-order special or standard editions of the book now from manutd.com/leading.
