Sir Alex: Youngsters Will Repay Faith

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed his great faith in youth as the series of audio previews for his new book, Leading, continues on Manchester United's official Facebook page.

The former United manager famously brought through the 'Class of '92' at Old Trafford and claims he had a vision of how his team would look in three years' time when bolstered by an injection of talent from within his ranks. Reading from the chapter entitled Pipeline, the Scot explained why he placed such trust in young talent.

"When you’re in any organisation, you have to look as far down the road as you can," he stated. "One of the first things I did when I joined Manchester United was to build a proper structure for the youth system.

"Every game requires 11 starting players and seven substitutes and our whole organisation was designed to produce them. I always wanted to know what the pipeline of players looked like for the team we would like to select in three years' time.

"It’s so much easier to produce a consistent level of high performance when you nourish youngsters, help them develop and provide them a pathway to success. Youngsters can inject a fantastic spirit into an organisation and a youngster will never forget the person or organisation that gave them their first big chance. They will repay it with a loyalty that lasts a lifetime."

The series will continue on United's Facebook page at 09:00 BST each day until 10 September. Leading will be released on 22 September and Sir Alex starts his theatre tour a day earlier. Pre-order special or standard editions of the book now from manutd.com/leading.
