LVG Should Apologise
Neil Custis lifted the lid after being labelled "fat" by Louis van Gaal - and his Sunday Supplement colleagues were critical of the Manchester United boss.
Van Gaal reacted angrily to questions about Wayne Rooney after a midweek draw at Newcastle, and Sun reporter Custis took the flak.
"We don't speak about Wayne Rooney, you have criticised him. I don't - you!" Van Gaal said to reporters at his post-match news conference, before pointing at Custis, adding: "You too, fat man".
"What he did was what a playground bully does to a child at school," Custis told the Supplement. "It's crass, it's pathetic but was I bothered? No. I couldn't care less."
But The People's Steve Bates, along with Supplement presenter Neil Ashton, said they thought Van Gaal should have apologised.
"He crossed the line for one simple reason, he made it personal. Managers and journalists do have a hate-hate relationship, but it should never get personal," Bates said.
"It's not acceptable for a manager to make things personal. I personally think he should have apologised."
