LVG Wants 'Horny' Players

Louis van Gaal drew laughter from reporters and a cringe from Juan Mata when he revealed his motivational techniques ahead of Thursday's Europa League last-32 tie against Midtjylland.

United were humiliated in the first leg last week when they lost 2-1 to the Danish side in Herning.

Speaking in the build-up to the second leg at Old Trafford about what his side must do to overturn the deficit, Van Gaal said: "The word desire is fantastic. We need desire, hunger and a lot of times I use the word horny to my players."

A bemused Mata was sitting alongside the Dutchman and was asked how he and his team-mates typically react to this bizarre set of instructions from their manager.

"Like you," Mata told laughing reporters. "We react like you do."
