Martial: I'm A Selfless Striker

Anthony Martial has admitted creating goals for his Manchester United team-mates means just as much as hitting the net himself.

The France international arrived at the club looking like a ruthless centre-forward, as he scored on his debut against Liverpool and struck twice in a win at Southampton. Since operating in a wider role, he has shown another side to his game and provided two assists in one game for the first time in his Reds career during the FA Cup fourth-round triumph at Derby County.

While maintaining an eye for goal, as he illustrated with a clinical header against Swansea City last month, he also has a tally in mind for his first season in English football, even if he is keeping the exact figure close to his chest.

"I have always been considered as an altruistic person," said the softly-spoken striker to MUTV in an exclusive interview. "This is something that has been said to me quite a lot. So both giving a decisive pass or scoring a goal means as much to me. At the end, the most important thing is to win as a team.

"I think it’s important to keep working hard to constantly improve and help the team to win titles and get back on top of the league table. Yes, I have a number in mind [as a goals target] but I’d rather keep it to myself."

Working at the Aon Training Complex continues to be an education for Martial, who revealed why he has already been able to develop his skills since moving from Monaco at the end of the summer transfer window. "[I improve] by training every day with talented players," he said. "Especially with Wayne Rooney, I learn a lot from him. I always try get inspired from him so that I can also become a great player."
