Van Gaal: We Can Find Form Again
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal sees tonight's chance of reaching the FA Cup quarter-finals as the perfect way for his team to rediscover winning form.
The Reds travel to Shrewsbury Town's Greenhous Meadow with the aim of defeating Micky Mellon's men and in doing so securing a place in the last eight of the cup. Despite recent setbacks, van Gaal is confident that his side can go far in the competition.
“We have to make our opponents fear us again," the boss told journalists at his post-match press conference in Denmark last week.
“We lost my first match in the Premier League, against Swansea City, but then we had a very good home record last season. We can do that again, it is just a question of winning matches in a row.
“On Monday we have to win and if we do then we are in the next round,” he continued. “I think that we are capable of winning the FA Cup.”
In addition to a downturn in form, van Gaal is also having to contend with an ever-increasing injury list at the moment, with David De Gea being the latest player to join it after hurting his knee in the warm-up before the Midtjylland match. However, the boss will have no qualms about Sergio Romero continuing in goal should De Gea be ruled unavailable to return.
Van Gaal said: “It was not an easy thing for him [Romero] to step in so late against Midtjylland and he has proved once again that he is a very good goalkeeper, as he did at the start of the season."
