Herrera: We Will Never Give Up

Ander Herrera insists he and his Manchester United team-mates will fight until the end for a top-four place, after Wednesday night's 1-0 win over Watford continued the Reds' strong run of form.

United edged a tight game through stand-in captain Juan Mata's superb free-kick, on a night when Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City all slipped up, and the win at a blustery Old Trafford means United are now level on points with fourth-placed City.

Speaking to MUTV after the match, Herrera says the squad have renewed belief about securing Champions League football for next season after seeing off the Hornets. "We have to be honest, we didn’t play so good. We have to learn to win games like this, when the weather is not the best.

"We were not so good with the ball in the beginning of the match and we gave them some chances, but if we want to fight for everything, including the race for the top four, then we need to win these kind of games," continued the midfielder. "We are showing passion that we want to fight until the end, and when we don’t play good, we still have the belief that we can win."

The wins over Watford and Arsenal were the first consecutive victories the Reds have recorded in the Barclays Premier League since beating West Bromwich Albion at home and then Watford away in November. The focus for Herrera and co now switches to making it three in a row on Sunday, when West Brom provide the opposition again, this time at The Hawthorns.

"In the Premier League, you never know what can happen in the next game," the Spaniard said. "We have to be prudent and we have to be humble, and we have to go now to West Brom who drew yesterday with the leaders in the table, so it won’t be easy. But when you are Man United, you have to learn to win these kind of games.

"We know that a few weeks ago we weren’t playing so well and losing matches we shouldn’t have lost. We had two options: to either give up, or fight until the end and that is what we want to do.

"We want to be in the top four and this won’t be easy because our opponents are also tough, but we are Man United and we will fight until the end because we still have a lot to win – three competitions.

"I think we will fight until the end and if our opponents want to beat us they are going to have to fight."
