Herrera: Shaw Is One Of World's Best
Ander Herrera admits everyone at Manchester United is happy that Luke Shaw has returned to action following his leg-break ordeal, chiefly because the players regard him as “one of the best left-backs in the world”.
Shaw suffered his serious injury at PSV Eindhoven in September and returned to action 10 months later with a promising first-half outing at Wigan Athletic last Saturday. Encouragingly, the 21-year-old followed that up with an impressive 90-minute display against Borussia Dortmund on Friday.
Although United disappointingly lost 4-1 to the impressive Bundesliga team in humid Shanghai, Herrera used his post-match interview with MUTV to highlight another positive step in Shaw’s rehabilitation.
“He has played for 90 minutes after 10 months without playing,” Ander pointed out, having also completed a full match himself. “You can see he is very, very quick and sometimes when you are not used to getting the ball at your feet then you can make some mistakes, but what we want from Luke is that he gets to the last line to make some crosses and he is doing that.
“We are very happy with him and we are very happy for him because it has been very tough for him. We have one of the best left-backs in the world and we have to take advantage of him.”
United’s attention now turns to Monday’s mouth-watering clash against Manchester City in Beijing, which will be the first-ever derby played outside of the UK. Herrera is unbeaten in two matches against the Blues, winning once, and the passionate Spaniard is excited for the occasion.
“City is our rival and it is very important for us,” Herrera said. “Since I have been at Man United I have won more games against them than I have lost. That is important for our fans.”
