Mourinho Can Handle Anfield
Jose Mourinho's record suggests he is the right man to lead Manchester United into Monday's huge match against Liverpool.
The atmosphere will be intense on Merseyside as the Anfield capacity has been raised to over 54,000 this season, the highest since 1977, but it will no hold fears for a tactician who has masterminded victories on four of his six league visits to the stadium.
In a rivalry between Liverpool and Chelsea that began in 2004, Mourinho regularly got the better of United's fiercest enemies - even if the Merseysiders had the upper hand in European meetings - and he won the first three contests between the clubs during his first stint as Blues boss. The third of these came in the 2005 League Cup final, giving the successful Portuguese coach his first trophy in English football.
Mourinho's Chelsea teams kept 10 clean sheets in all competitions against Liverpool and the games between the clubs were often tight affairs. However, a 4-1 victory at Anfield in October 2005 was particularly impressive and it took the Blues nine points clear at the top of the table en route to the championship.
Perhaps the most famous success, though, came towards the end of the 2013/14 campaign. Liverpool, then managed by Brendan Rodgers, were closing in on their first title since 1990 when Mourinho came to town, selecting a much-changed side after appearing to prioritise the Champions League semi-final with Atletico Madrid instead.
Tomas Kalas, Mohamed Salah, Demba Ba and Andre Schurrle all started with John Terry, David Luiz and Eden Hazard among the absentees but the visitors pulled off a 2-0 triumph thanks to a tactical masterclass from their manager.
Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool may have inflicted a first home defeat to Chelsea for Mourinho 12 months ago but the United boss will be determined to work his magic come Monday night and achieve the right result in the biggest of games. Even an expanded Anfield will hold no fears for Jose.
